Slogging - Raids 57 and 58 - Level 16

I need 30,000 XP to reach Level 17.  I have about a dozen quests available, but the majority are just find and fetch quests. Between those and my hideout I have a huge shopping list.  I need a power cable (or a T-adaptor), flash drive, cans of stew, car batteries and spark plugs, and on and on.  Many of the quests require keys I don't have.  So there are not a lot of good choices. But if I can kill all six raiders in the bunker on Reserve, that's worth about 9000 XP. So maybe I'll try that.

Raid 57 - Bad Luck

Destination: Reserve

Plan: Try and kill the raiders in the bunker, afterwards see if someone unlocked the two rooms I need access to for the Disease History quest (I don't have either key).

Loadout: Class 4 armor, Vityaz PP-19 with many mags of Pst gzh. One grenade, ears, meds.

I spawned at the hermetic door. This is one of the furthest from the bunkers. Took the underground route to the far side of the loading docks, made my way to King.  No sign of anyone, but I heard the sounds of fighting while underground.  In King the little gate at the stairs was closed. That's surprising, this is a popular entrance and I've got to be one of the last ones to arrive. I went through, closing it behind me, and descended.

The bunker was quiet.  I killed two scavs, one of which roughed up my arm a little. If he had been a raider I'd be dead.  I searched all the places the raiders hide, but the bunker is well and truly empty. No sign of anyone. Must be an unpopulated raid. I pulled the D-2 switch, but nothing happened. I double checked for raiders again, but there was no one.  Crossed the water and went to white bishop. There were footsteps upstairs, but then they stopped. Did someone hear me?  I carefully ascended but it was empty - whoever was there had left.  The doors on the second floor were both still locked.

Now what?  I'll go loot the containers in the big room of the bunker and then head out through D-2.  So I descended again, and crossed the water. As I approached the antechamber with the stairs to King I heard someone moving around.  It's probably a player scav.  I carefully peeked each door to the big chamber, but couldn't get eyes on anyone. Whoever is in there is over on the far side.  I don't like the big room - it's tough to conduct a fight inside. So I went up the ramp towards D-2. Then I quieted down and slowly began to walk towards the stairs that redescend from White Pawn.  As I went, I could hear someone jumping and moving around. As I slow walked I got a notice about levelling up my Covert Movement skill. Perfect timing.

I continued to hear someone run and jump around, heard them breathing hard. I was descending the stairs. I don't know exactly what room they are in, but I think it's either the little room with the ramp, or the big room. Right before I reach the bottom of these stairs I'm going to aim down sight, carefully pie the first room, and if I see someone I'll hit 'em with the flashlight and the Vityaz. Good plan, except before I finished descending someone stepped into the staircase, already aiming down sight right at me, and I was dead.

The figure that loomed into view had an altyn helmet with visor and looked like he was wearing one of those aprons used by explosive ordinance disposal teams.  I very much doubt my 9mm Pst gzh would be taking him down in a straight fight.  I guess I could leg him, but I've never killed anyone that way and it's unlikely I would develop that skill under duress.  So, without question, I was going to lose this fight.

I guess it was bad luck? It nags me a little. He had a helmet that ostensibly reduces hearing, he's jumping around and breathing hard, and I was walking at my slowest most quiet speed, without being heavy. Yet he stepped in aiming down sight right at me. In fairness, he may have heard me when I was at the far side of the big room peeking and so that might have put him on alert. Also, he's undoubtedly a higher level, so his Perception skill is high and maybe that gave him a noise clue.   And, in fairness, when I go through doors or take corners in a place where I'm expecting hostiles, I aim down sight before swinging in.

Time In Raid: 14 minutes, 56 seconds
Exp: 531  (only 60 more raids like this and I'll make Level 17)
Kills (ai scavs): Anfim Vertolet, Kot Kastet
Killed By: King_MaldoTTV   - GG, I wish you had been streaming our encounter.
Ammo Used: 31, Hits: 5, Accuracy: 0.16, Damage to Body: 200, Damage to Armor: 36

Mistakes

  • probably should have looted the big room after I first killed the scavs

Successes

  • killed the scavs

Raid 58 - The Ambulances

Destination: Shoreline

Goal: Mark 3 ambulances and extract alive.

Loadout: Modded ADAR and Class 4 rig. Ears, meds, food and drink.

This raid was pretty boring. I couldn't remember if the seashore is to the north or the south and spent some time bearing the wrong direction.  But ultimately I marked the ambulances and killed a few scavs.  I had a couple scavs fire on me, but I couldn't see them so I evaded. I saw one player wearing a blue UN helmet looting a body about 200 meters away. Fired on him and missed and then he ran. But I fulfilled the quest, so I get 4800 more experience points for that.

Time In Raid: 43 minutes, 50 seconds
Exp: 1324
Kills: Makar Reanimator, Afansly Sotona, Yasha Zadrotov
Ammo Used: 9 Hits: 7  Accuracy: 0.78   Damage to Body: 258  Damage to Armor: 46

Mistakes

  • did not get much loot and did not loot my last kill which I definitely should have done
  • missing the shot on Mr. United Nations

Successes

  • completed the quest
  • used the food and drink - very important

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you are BEAR, t

Counting Cheaters - Part 4

Methodology Because of this blog, I have a record of the name of everyone who kills me, as well as a mostly complete record of the name of everyone I manage to kill.  Every two months this wipe (12.12) I look up all those names in the in-game chat tool.  The presumption being that if a name is no longer in the chat tool then either that person changed their name, or they were banned for cheating.   It is not a perfect methodology nor do I have a lot of data, but it's far better than just going by feel, which is what most people do. The arguments about cheating on Reddit are mostly silly as people just try to generalize anecdotal experiences.  My Anecdotal Experience Since I broached the topic, here is my own anecdotal experience. Before I started doing this I didn't feel like I had encountered many cheaters in Wipe 12.12.  Just a couple.   But since I've started tracking, my view has become more jaundiced and now I have more suspicions. BUT, overall this wipe, I feel like I

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi
