Meh - Raid 24, Killed by Scav - Level 8

All my outstanding tasks are "find it, fetch it" sort of tasks. I need white armor for Skier, salewas for Therapist, a syringe for my med station in the hideout, tushonka and lunch boxes for Jaeger.  Elite pliers for Mechanic.  Plus, assuming I can get any of these tasks cleared, I will soon need gas analyzers, flash drives, blood sets, 60 round mags and more.  And corrugated hose, so much corrugated hose.

The only "do something" task I have is to kill 15 scavs on Woods. I was hoping to combine that with my "kill 5 scavs without wearing armor" task (which I don't have yet).  Oh well, I might as well get started.

Raid 24

Destination: Woods

Objectives: Kill Scavs and Loot.  Lots.

Loadout: AK-74N with 4x Pilad scope and blue laser.  Meds, ears, busted up Class 4 armor, water.

I spawned near some minefield. It was pouring rain and there was a lot of fog making it hard to see.  After a bit of exploring I realized I was behind the scav house.  I scoped it, but it's impossible to see anything. Impossible to hear anything either with the pounding rain.  I slowly and carefully approached the house, keeping cover and concealment.  I scoped the house again, and there, through some foliage I could just make out the bare outline of someone. I carefully put the reticle where a head should be and clicked.  There was some sort of hiccup in the game, the scav death rattle sounded followed by the retort of my weapon and the recoil.  Whatever.  I think that was a kill. I didn't approach immediately - I circled around the backside of the house, scoping the field beyond. I crossed the road and scoped the house again. No sign of any others.  Should I loot my kill? Maybe? I really need to find the white armor, but I'm sure he won't have it. I'd like to head on to Emercom camp, where there will likely be more scavs to kill and more loot to be gotten.

Just then I heard a scav shout - some other scav found the body.  Great, let's go get another scav kill. I circled back and carefully reapproached the house. No sign of anyone.  I approached the body, peeked through the door. Empty. Where is the scav who shouted?  Ask and ye shall receive. A scav shouted something short and sharp, followed immediately by a dead on shot.  I stepped to cover, spun around and leaned out and put a shot right on his head, or rather, it would have been on his head. I wasn't leaning out far enough from the house, my bullet hit the edge of the building.  Height over bore. Damnit - I pulled back. My armor had saved my life, but I still was badly wounded - thorax hovering above 0. I backed further away, healing.

I practice a lot offline, with the scavs set varyingly to easy, medium, hard or impossible. One of the defining characteristics of the hard or impossible scavs is how quickly they shoot after shouting and how accurate their fire is.  When you play "as online", then you get a variety of scavs, probably on a curved distribution. The scav that just tagged me is definitely hard or, more likely, impossible. I have to be very careful with him. I absolutely need to get out of his visibility so he resets, otherwise he'll shoot on me without shouting, and I definitely want to get eyes on him before he gets them on me.

Fortunately, my wound was easily healed and I had no blacked limbs. I advanced cover to cover to the cabin again, and peeked around the other side.  No sign of him. Where was he?  I circled back to my original position. Still no sign of him.  Where the hell is he? Maybe I should bug out.  A scav shouted from the right edge of the field, shit. I headed for the cover of the house. He fired and missed, and his fire seemed slower than before. Maybe I misread him?  I started the thing I've been practicing so much. From behind cover I crouched and aimed down sight, to where I think he is. At this point I'm aiming at nothing, the cover blocks the sight line. Then I lean from cover, put the reticle on the targets head and fire. It's a lot of steps, but with practice I can do it pretty smoothly and quickly.  I started that. At the same moment a scav shouted something in my left ear and I was dead.  Where the hell had Mr. Impossible been hiding?

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you are BEAR, t

Counting Cheaters - Part 4

Methodology Because of this blog, I have a record of the name of everyone who kills me, as well as a mostly complete record of the name of everyone I manage to kill.  Every two months this wipe (12.12) I look up all those names in the in-game chat tool.  The presumption being that if a name is no longer in the chat tool then either that person changed their name, or they were banned for cheating.   It is not a perfect methodology nor do I have a lot of data, but it's far better than just going by feel, which is what most people do. The arguments about cheating on Reddit are mostly silly as people just try to generalize anecdotal experiences.  My Anecdotal Experience Since I broached the topic, here is my own anecdotal experience. Before I started doing this I didn't feel like I had encountered many cheaters in Wipe 12.12.  Just a couple.   But since I've started tracking, my view has become more jaundiced and now I have more suspicions. BUT, overall this wipe, I feel like I

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi
