Delivery from the Past, Part 2. Raids 18 and 19. Level 7

I have been practicing Factory a bit offline. I tried using that M870 shotgun again, and the result of that is that I sold it to Mechanic. Time for the show.

Raid 18

Destination: Factory

Goal: place "delivery from the past" doc case.

I spawned into the Factory and looked around - where am I? Wait, this is familiar. I am at the base of the stairs that leads to where this doc case goes. Score!   I ran up the steps - fighting ensued near the far staircase leading to the office. I went prone, deposited the case and extracted.  Amazingly, it was not a run through.

Time In Raid: 1 minute, 7 seconds
Exp: 825  ( exploration XP for the win)

I am glad to have that albatross off my neck. Onward!!

Raid 19 - BP Depot and Ammo

Destination: Customs

Goal: mark the four tanker trucks on the map.  Kill some PMCs and player scavs for some sweet XP

Progress: no measurable progress

I spawned into one of the buildings in the industrial area.  Looted it.  My plan is to first go to the corner of the map and then work my way back to old gas for the first tanker.  I peeked out the door of the building - there was an armorless PMC down near the big liquid storage tanks. I aimed down sight and whiffed. Goddamnit.  This AK-74 has been serving me pretty well these last raids, but to be honest it's not my favorite. I usually prefer something that's a little heavier hitting. Plus, for whatever reason, I seem unable to aim this damn thing.

I chased the PMC. He ducked into a building. I didn't follow - instead I went around to the backside where the other exit was. I climbed the railroad embankment and posted up, waiting for him to appear. But he didn't. Should I hunt him down? No, let him come to me.  I proceeded to the corner of the map and hid in a bush next to the stash. When he thinks it's safe, he'll come here, I was sure.  I was just about to loot the stash when I heard footsteps approaching. I waited, they approached. I aimed down sight and stood up and ... where is he? He's further away than I thought, he's in the cement depression. I've blown my cover too early. I ran forward, hoping to use the lip of the depression as a bit of cover - but I over approached. I fired, he fired back with his own AK-74.  His aim was truer than mine.  I backed up, heavy bleed. I threw a grenade to force him away and esmarched my leg while standing in the middle of the road without cover because if my leg goes black this will become a very difficult raid. I was able to save the leg. I retreated back to my bush and healed. I have a blacked arm.   This sucks - I've had two chances on this guy and have blown both of them.  I can't stay here.

So I licked my wounds and headed towards old gas.  As I approached, there were the sounds of combat there - shotgun fire.  When I reached old gas, it was quiet. I carefully leaned out from cover and surveyed the situation. There was a PMC aiming down sight towards the rear exit.  I carefully lined up my shot and fired at his head. And he didn't go down. What? I fired more, and a smidge more, and down he went. Finally.   Now wait - there's always another, right?

I waited. But no sounds of anyone. I crossed the bridge span exposed, hoping to draw fire. But nothing. I dropped into the old gas area.  Cover to cover I made my way to the tanker. I need to clear this area a bit more before attempting to plant the beacon. I went up to the corner of the gas station. I could hear someone moving - and a grenade.  I jumped clear.  I ran back to the container. I don't know what possessed me to try marking it at this moment, but I tried. I couldn't get the marker to work. Whatever. I flanked over to the other truck. Where is my adversary?  I scanned and scanned. No sign of him. But I think I know where he is - he's in that grass and bushes right there, I'm sure of it.  Too bad I wasted my grenade earlier, I could sure use it now. Instead I did something blindingly stupid - I ran directly to where I thought he was.  And, hey, I was right - he was there!  But I over approached again, but this time I was running, weapon down.  I stopped and raised my weapon and fired, but too late - he already had a bead on me and emptied a full magazine of 7.62x39mm BP into me. (BP!! the good kind!! where did you find that?)

Time In Raid: 11 minutes, 15 seconds
Exp: 317
Killed: Toha Robokop (scav)
Ammo Used: 57, Hits: 8, Accuracy: 0.11, Damage to Body: 370, Damage to Armor: 13
Killed By: Mussixx.   Nice one Mussixx !!  Hasta proxima.

Mistakes

  • Rushing straight into combat without cover. Twice.
  • Too hasty with the grenade. (debatable)
  • Poor aiming.  The fact that the unarmored PMC both got away and got the better of me is a damning indictment. What the heck.
  • Mistaking a scav for a PMC.  How am I still making this mistake?
  • Failure to find and use hard cover.  Twice.
  • Misjudging audio distance
  • Not enough patience after the first kill in old gas?
  • died
  • placed 0 markers
  • only 1 marker was in my secure container

Successes

  • the setups on the first PMC were both smart.  Too bad I blew the second one.
  • the circling and flanking in old gas were pretty good. Wasted with my poor decision to engage in a frontal attack.

Postscript

Despite the setback, that was a fun raid. I happen to have an AKM that I'm looking forward to using. The 7.62x39mm rounds are a lot more satisfying.  So I quickly kitted out and joined another Customs raid, but then realized that I hadn't actually practiced with this weapon and haven't used a basic AKM in a long time. So I cancelled and did a quick offline raid. No more play time today. Perhaps tomorrow.

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you are BEAR, t

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi

Counting Cheaters - Part 4

Methodology Because of this blog, I have a record of the name of everyone who kills me, as well as a mostly complete record of the name of everyone I manage to kill.  Every two months this wipe (12.12) I look up all those names in the in-game chat tool.  The presumption being that if a name is no longer in the chat tool then either that person changed their name, or they were banned for cheating.   It is not a perfect methodology nor do I have a lot of data, but it's far better than just going by feel, which is what most people do. The arguments about cheating on Reddit are mostly silly as people just try to generalize anecdotal experiences.  My Anecdotal Experience Since I broached the topic, here is my own anecdotal experience. Before I started doing this I didn't feel like I had encountered many cheaters in Wipe 12.12.  Just a couple.   But since I've started tracking, my view has become more jaundiced and now I have more suspicions. BUT, overall this wipe, I feel like I
