Update: Raids 83 and 84 - Tarkov Cat, Me Mouse

I have the BP Depot quest. Just put four markers on four tanker trucks on Customs. Seems easy enough. Can I do it in one raid?  Also, I still need to kill 10 more scavs on Customs for Therapist. Maybe I can get that done too. And, I'm going to continue the night raid theme.

Goals:

  • mark four tanker trucks on customs
  • kill 10 scavs
  • survive (optional?)
  • if opportunity arises, hit Crackhouse and Tarcone Director's office looking for intel.

Raid 83

Loadout: Class 4  M2 Armored Rig, VSS with PSO scope and canted sight, one twenty round magazine of 9x39mm BP ammo, one of SPP, and several of SP-5.  Two grenades. Meds.  CMS kit, splint and directors office key are NOT in my secure container, they are in my backpack.  The four markers are in secure container (they are expensive).
Insurance: 38K

I'm excited to use the VSS. It's always been one of my favorite weapons, but until I became level 10 it was never really a viable option. Strangely, since graduating I have just kept up my old habits: VPO-209, Vityaz SMG, etc.    But not tonight. Tonight the VSS.

Spawned on hill above train below power tower (not the dorms side).  Great. I'll go from here to new gas, and after that maybe old gas, construction, and then cross the river. Sounds like a plan.   I don't know where the gas tanker truck is at new gas - I've never paid attention.  Is it on the river side or the checkpoint side? It'd be good to know.

I made my way to a spot overlooking the river side of new gas.  Scoped the parking lot - there was a scav. It took me three shots, but ultimately I headshotted him.  Hmmm. I've been practicing with this weapon offline but it seems more practice is warranted.  Do not see the tanker truck on this side.

Worked over to a spot overlooking the other side of new gas.  No sign of scavs. But there's the tanker. The world looks different with NVGs, and perhaps even with different types of NVGs. But with the Armasight, I can see that the two low hillocks outside new gas are deeply shadowed. And without NVGs they are black pits.  Ok - let's use that location to stage the attack.

I descended the hill quietly, made my way behind the hillocks. Peeked from a bush, couldn't see much. Went prone and crawled into the space between the hillocks - I'm not cresting any ridge, I should be still in the dark shadows. Scoped gas again. No sign of anyone.  Waited. Still nothing.  Time to move out. I switched the VSS to autofire,  crouched and Rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat got a blast of autofire in the back of my head.

Congratulations to Croatfortyfive1 on the kill!  What sort of NVGs (or thermals?) were you using? Were you able to see me? Or had you caught sight of me descending the hill and waited until I crouched (and thus came into view)?

Time In Raid: 6 minutes 13 seconds
Exp: 220

Kills: Mishanya Kolobok
Ammo Used: 3   Hits: 1   Damage to Body: 40  Accuracy: 0.33
Healing: 8K

I forgot to record what sort of ammo Croatfortyfive1 used on me.

Mistakes

  • not sure.  Could I have done better "checking my corners" before descending?  I think it was just bad luck
  • poor aiming on scav.  Should have taken him with 1 shot. Especially at 67 meters.

Successes

  • killed a scav (only 9 more to go)

Raid 84

As quickly as I could I assembled a new loadout. Just grabbing shit from my stash, purchasing a new set of NVGs.  But as fast as I could was not fast enough. It was now 6am and 6pm in Tarkov, daytime. I ran a scav raid to move the clock forward and didn't even bother selling the loot I brought back. The clock is also counting down on my available playtime - do I have enough to run another raid?

I scanned my hasty loadout. I'm forgetting something but can't remember what it is.  Food and drink? Nah, shouldn't need that for Customs. Do I have a weapon and ammo? Yes. Ok, well, then whatever it is can't be that important.  Insured my shit and clicked "Ready".

Loadout: Armasight NVG-15 setup.  Press Class 3 armor.  VPO-209 with noob Pilad 4x scope and canted sight. Two 30 round magazines of .366 AP, one of TKM FMJ.  Kurz SMG in rig.  Meds, two grenades, backpack. The four markers are in my secure container.

Spawned at trailer park.  It was still bright.  Did I choose the wrong raid time?  Isn't it 22:30 ? Or is it 20:30? I put the NVG in my backpack.  I marked the tanker there, went to the customs house and up to the directors office where I realized I didn't have the key. I lost it last raid. Oh well. I looted the two shacks and surprisingly got some great loot - lots of bolts, nails, wires, bulbs, etc.  things I need for my hideout and some of which have been very expensive lately (bolts for 50K).  Nice.  Killed a scav, ended up point shooting him because I fumbled the scope/sight.  But came away unscathed.

Finally, the sky darkened. I put on the NVGs. Crossed the river, killed some more scavs. A battle was brewing around Crackhouse - I worked my way to construction, killed more scavs and marked the next tanker.  Also scored some M62 and M995 ammo. Nice! Moved that to my secure container. I don't care about FIR, I will run those.

Made my way to New Gas. Seemed quiet. Jumped the barbed wire over the pipe and dropped into a bush. Still quiet.  A PMC was at the end of the road, seemingly heading from the industrial zone to the woods. Scoped but couldn't spot him. Pretty late to be headed that direction, isn't it?  I tried to reacquire eyes on him, but failed.  I waited a bit and then got ready to make my play to New Gas. Suddenly there were footsteps on the road - near the shortcut. Probably a scav. But then the someone began shooting out the lights and windows of New Gas.  A PMC? A player scav? Now what? Should I take him, or just wait him out?   If he crosses to this side I'll take him. Otherwise wait.

I waited. He disappeared somewhere.  I put the tracker on the tanker without incident. No boss, no players, no scavs. Made my way to Old Gas. Man, I hope the extract is open, it's getting late.  I encountered a scav about 50 meters away, but strangely though my scope was ranged right, dead centered, holding breath, I couldn't land the shot(s).  He got away.

Perched above Old Gas I killed some more scavs, with continued problems aiming. I realized I had a tremor and my vision was blurring. What? Oh god - my energy and hydration are zeroed.  I scanned my loot, nothing but bolts, nails and wire. I applied some healing and hustled down to the last tanker. The extract was open (Yes!!).  I began making that sucking sound when one's stomach is shot out. Oh come on!  I applied more healing, put the tracker on the tanker, started walking to extract and died with 10 seconds left on the "protection" counter and probably not more than 20 steps away from the extract.   On the post-mortem I see that I killed 7 scavs. So I have just two scavs left to complete the Therapist quest. Also on the post-mortem, I can see that I am just some few hundred XP from reaching level 14 - had I survived I would have crossed that finish line too.  Fantastic - I hit the trifecta of failure.

Time In Raid: 39 minutes, 45 seconds
Exp: 1671
Kills: (all scavs) Kolka Animator, Yulian Cherep, Mityay Baton, Antich Chuzhoy, Kolyan Ozverevshiy, Timofey Cherep, Anatoliy Kepka.  Godspeed gentlemen. Also, Yulian and Timofey, I will send my condolences to your mother - a tragedy to lose two sons on the same day.

Ammo Used: 31, Hits: 14, Accuracy: 0.45  Headshots: 2.  Damage to Body: 460  Damage to Armor: 31
Healing: 10k

Mistakes

  • died
  • not managing time better - too cowardly in my map movement
  • not bringing food and drink.  What a stupid way to die.
  • Trouble managing combat - should have had more headshots and more overall accuracy.
  • No white armor. I didn't realize I killed so many scavs. Certainly, I know I didn't loot that many for the precious white armor. Need to be better about checking for that or I will never finish this quest.
  • forgot key to Director's Office
  • did not successfully track last tanker and lost the marker

Successes

  • was not killed by a player or a scav
  • came away with the M62 and the M995.

PostScript

I enjoy the night raids. However, I think they are bad for me as a player.  I find myself falling back to lurking, skulking and avoiding conflict, rather than seeking it out.

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you a...

Quest for Beta! Raid 115

I have a big announcement to share: I have decided to pursue acquiring secure container beta!!   Yes, I know that's not as impressive as acquiring kappa, or gamma, or epsilon, but I need to set realistic achievable goals.  I could just buy a beta container on the flea market, they were going for about 750K rubles last I checked. But I want to do this properly: barter trade with Peacekeeper. In exchange for a beta container Peacekeeper wants 3 Iridiums 2 Virtexes 3 Military Cables 1 Tank Battery That's a lot of military tech, which means I need to go where there are multiple military tech spawns, which means Reserve.  The rules for this quest is that I have to find each of those items in raid, but, for every PMC I kill (starting today) I will allow myself to reward myself by buying one of the items off the flea market.  Also, some of those items are craftable, and if I'm in a bind I'll allow myself to craft them, but only using 75% or more found-in-raid ingredien...

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi...
