Update: Raid 92 - Pick up for Prapor

I can't believe I brought the wrong portable cabin key on the last raid.  Is this easy quest going to drag out for raid after raid like the BP Depot quest?

Destination: Customs

Goal:

  • pick up Prapor package from portable cabin and survive and extract
  • find white armor
  • find gas analyzer (and other stuff)
  • don't tarry, I don't have a lot of real-world time for this raid.

Raid 92

Got one of the new spawns - next to the wall that runs between dorms and the new gas station/railroad.  I believe this is the new "closest to dorms" spawn.  Sorry to waste it, because that's not where I am headed.  I followed the wall down towards new gas.  Hit a stash (empty). Should I go peek new gas and maybe kill a scav or two?  I was considering this when suddenly weapon fire broke out at new gas. One of the weapons is pretty full-throated, probably that DT .308 DMR assault rifle that I envy so, or maybe a FAL.  Should I see if I can third-party this?  I decided not, to stay focused on the task at hand.

Made my way to the bus depot - nobody there. Crossed the road and entered construction around the big skeleton. Still nobody - no sign of any scavs.  Went up, unlocked the portable cabin with the correct key and got the package. Was about to loot the weapons crate when I heard footsteps outside. I set up with the door frame as a keyhole. The footsteps moved around and I heard a scav mutter. Whew, not a player.  I think the scav might be on the road - not in this construction area.

So where will that duo who shot up New Gas go next?  Dorms or Stronghold would be the two most likely candidates, and if they head to stronghold they should go right by my position.  Should I wait or hustle on?  Suddenly there was heavy firing at the bus depot - the full-throated roar of one of the weapons let me know it was the duo.  What would they be firing on in the bus depot? Did a scav spawn there? Maybe it was that scav I heard earlier?  Or some poor PMC caught by them?

I waited. If they head to stronghold, they'll cross my field of vision and I should have good shots on them unless they are quick to recognize that this cabin door is normally closed. But they didn't show.

Time to move. I stayed in the construction area and headed to little skeleton.  No scavs.  Where are they?  I went through the cut in the wall and peeked out of the bushes towards the main bridge. There was a scav guard standing at the intersection.  Interesting - that means the duo hasn't come down this way. I headshotted him. No white armor.

Crossed the bridge on the main span. Checked the customs house - no scavs.  I didn't have the director's office key, so I crossed it off the list as of interest for looting, but that was a mistake - there is still a lot of loot I could have grabbed uncontested.  Oh well. Walked down road and extracted.

Time In Raid: 15 minutes, 42 seconds
Exp: 831
Killed: Taras Arbidol (scav).  Sorry Taras, it wasn't personal. Godspeed.
Ammo Used: 1   Hits: 1  Accuracy: 1   Damage to Body: 35

Mistakes

  • should have been more brave.  Maybe should have third partied at New Gas
  • during the shootout at the bus depot I should have peeked over there - I was up high, I might have had good shots.  You miss all the shots you don't take.  Cowardice.
  • very little loot gotten. missed obvious loot opportunities
  • only one scav killed. Should have cut down towards RUAF extract looking for more scav kills.
  • ultimately, the raid was boring. Need more derring-do!  Think of the readers!

Successes

  • completed quest
  • found 120 rounds of 5.45x39mm BS ammo. That stuff sells for north of 1K rubles per round. So, while I didn't walk away with a lot of loot, I did OK with the little loot I did grab.
  • kept the raid short (real life constraints)

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you are BEAR, t

Counting Cheaters - Part 4

Methodology Because of this blog, I have a record of the name of everyone who kills me, as well as a mostly complete record of the name of everyone I manage to kill.  Every two months this wipe (12.12) I look up all those names in the in-game chat tool.  The presumption being that if a name is no longer in the chat tool then either that person changed their name, or they were banned for cheating.   It is not a perfect methodology nor do I have a lot of data, but it's far better than just going by feel, which is what most people do. The arguments about cheating on Reddit are mostly silly as people just try to generalize anecdotal experiences.  My Anecdotal Experience Since I broached the topic, here is my own anecdotal experience. Before I started doing this I didn't feel like I had encountered many cheaters in Wipe 12.12.  Just a couple.   But since I've started tracking, my view has become more jaundiced and now I have more suspicions. BUT, overall this wipe, I feel like I

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi
