Update: Raid 104 - Missed the Party

Pursuing the "kill 3 PMCs with a pistol" has not been working well on Interchange. That's fine, I have a ton of Interchange quests right now and I'm getting them done.  Today the plan is to just focus on the Interchange quests and maybe a PMC will accidentally wander in front of my reticle.

Destination: Interchange

Goals:

  • mark 3 tankers
  • get manifest from Oli and Goshan
  • kill scavs (need a lot more)

Raid 104

Loadout: Class 4 M2 armor.  Silenced SR1MP pistol with two magazines of SP13 and SP10. Meds, markers, backpack, ears, no grenade.

Spawned on street behind Goshan, right next to one of the tanker trucks. OK, that's convenient. Marked the truck. The next truck is right down the road, but I need the manifest from Goshan and there is a better chance of encountering players inside.  I don't know the Goshan part of the mall well. Supposedly there is some elevator shaft with a ramp that will let me ascend to the main floor?  Found it and ascended.  Before I reached the top I heard the sounds of people fighting Killa.  Hard to tell by sound alone, but I don't think Killa came out on top this time.

Began to work my way from the back of Goshan to the front. Suddenly there was a loud withering blast of autofire in front of me. I took cover. Those shots weren't at me. They sounded like they had been fired near the front of Goshan. That's still far away, I'm not sure I can sneak up especially since I don't know the inside of this store at all.   I waited, listening for more audio clues. It was quiet.  A minute ticked by, maybe another. Suddenly that autofire opened up again for another long blast. Where was it? Still sounded like out in front of Goshan.  I listened. The strange thing is that there were no other sounds of combat - no grenades, no return fire, no running or yelling.  Just these disembodied blasts of bullets.

I started creeping forward - trying to keep to the right, trying to keep to darkness.  While I made my way there was at least one more blast of fire from the same weapon.  But I didn't see anything. Am I mistaken about the sounds origin? Might it be upstairs?  What is going on?

I made my way to the edge of the checkout lanes where Goshan meets the mall. No sign of anyone or anything, no bodies. I hooked around and ducked down the lane heading toward the offices. Through one set of doors, opened the office door entered and closed it behind me. The opposite door was open, looks like someone may have been here. But otherwise quiet. I scanned for loot and the manifest. Another withering blast of autofire shook the door - that was close, maybe right outside the other doors? I forgot to close that first set of doors! Shit - had someone seen that?  I set up at the door I had closed, listening. ... Nothing.   I stepped down, found the manifest and left.

I made my way to parking underneath IDEA looking for Scavs. No scavs. Went to the power station where the next tanker and some scavs should be. Tanker yes. Scavs no. Worked around mall and across parking lot to the last tankers among the tents on the main roadway. No scavs encountered. No players. Nobody. Marked the tanker.   Where is my extract? Can I hit the last manifest in Oli on my way out? I cannot - my extract is at the Railway, not Emercom Camp and there is only 8 minutes left of the raid.  Made my way out an extracted.

Time In Raid: 37 minutes, 15 seconds
Exp: 895
No kills. No shots fired.

Mistakes

  • Should I have tried to hunt down the source of the autofire?  Given that I don't know Goshan and wasn't clear on where he was, and that I only have a pistol, I think it was best to have avoided him.
  • Didn't manage time better to get last manifest.
  • No scav kills

Successes

  • completed another quest
  • made level 17
  • loot and quest rewards put me at 3.5 million rubles

PostScript

I really don't understand what was going on with that autofire.  I have never used the Hole in the Fence extract, but maybe that's the go-to exit for the Killa farmers?  If so, perhaps there is some sneaky place near the entrance of Goshan to set up on them?  Is that what was happening?  There were never sounds of combat (return fire, grenades, etc) and the autofire always seemed to come from the same location (I don't know where).  Strange.

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you are BEAR, t

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi

Counting Cheaters - Part 4

Methodology Because of this blog, I have a record of the name of everyone who kills me, as well as a mostly complete record of the name of everyone I manage to kill.  Every two months this wipe (12.12) I look up all those names in the in-game chat tool.  The presumption being that if a name is no longer in the chat tool then either that person changed their name, or they were banned for cheating.   It is not a perfect methodology nor do I have a lot of data, but it's far better than just going by feel, which is what most people do. The arguments about cheating on Reddit are mostly silly as people just try to generalize anecdotal experiences.  My Anecdotal Experience Since I broached the topic, here is my own anecdotal experience. Before I started doing this I didn't feel like I had encountered many cheaters in Wipe 12.12.  Just a couple.   But since I've started tracking, my view has become more jaundiced and now I have more suspicions. BUT, overall this wipe, I feel like I
