Update: Raid 85 - Tarkov Hates Me

NOTE - For any reader wondering how I did in the Punisher tournament, I'm sorry to report that I wasn't invited. I'm sure it was just an oversight.

I can't believe I died of dehydration and exhaustion last raid, I only need 300 XP to make Level 14, only one tanker truck (and survive raid) to finish BP Depot raid. Only kill two more scavs to finish Therapist quest.   So close.

My insurance from the last two raids came in. My M2 rig, VSS, and NVGs are gone. Damn. Thankfully the VPO-209 came back.

Destination: Customs at Night

Simple Goals:

  • mark tanker in old gas
  • kill two scavs
  • survive and extract
  • hit crackhouse / director's office if convenient for possible intel
Progress:
  • I did not make level 14 or complete any quest.

Raid 85

Loadout: New VSS with PSO, flashlight and canted sight. New M2 armored rig.  Several magazines of ammo, one 30-round mag of BP, two 20-round mags of SPP, and few more of SP-5.  Meds, one grenade, a "Hot Rod" energy drink, CMS kit and Director Office key in alpha container

Spawned above Military Checkpoint. Scoped, but no scavs. Made my way to industrial area. A lone scav was quite far down the road. I scoped him and set the range on the scope, but then he ran where I couldn't see him. Well, maybe I'll get another shot at him when I loop round.

Hit some stashes. Got some great loot - thermite, a Vector, pretty much everything was high value.  I'm not entirely sure that's a good sign.

Made my way to Old Gas. No sign of anyone. Placed the marker, hit more stashes (with more great loot) and made my way over to crackhouse.  I was mostly walking, because running is loud, and trying to move cover to cover. The rear door of crackhouse is closed. That's good. I walked along the outside edge of crackhouse, slowing down so as to not alert anyone inside, listening for sounds from inside.  Quiet.  As I made my way down that little corridor between crackhouse and the fence I suddenly heard two suppressed shots from somewhere behind me, one hitting me.

I ran.  My PMC ran forward about two steps and then stopped. Why am I stopping? Is there a low wall or something here? Was it a stam drain? I didn't check the indicator - I just tried resuming my flight - the corner of the building is steps away - if I make it I can use it for cover.   But suppressed autofire rang out and I collapsed to the ground.

The post-mortem screen had a surprise for me.  My killer?  Sektant  ! A cultist?  Aren't they supposed to harass with SMGs and then sneak up and try and stab the player? I didn't realize just gunning down players with an AKM loaded with BP was an option.

Time In Raid: 16 minutes, 34 seconds
Exp: 180
No Shots Fired.

Successes

  • completed _one_ of my goals. Got the damn tanker marked.
  • put some good ammo I looted in my secure container. I can use that.

Mistakes

  • None.   I was definitely looking around and trying to be aware of my surroundings. I suspect the cultist was lurking in one of the bushes I passed. Or maybe he was creeping up on me silently.

PostScript

I have died in the last three raids, but none of those deaths were the results of my fear or lack of combat prowess.  Twice I was jumped from behind. (What are you going to do?) and once I died of dehydration (really?).  It seems like Tarkov itself is working against me.

Post PostScript

I ran Reserve as a Scav.  My first foray on that map.  I didn't get great loot, but I survived and extracted on the train.

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you a...

Quest for Beta! Raid 115

I have a big announcement to share: I have decided to pursue acquiring secure container beta!!   Yes, I know that's not as impressive as acquiring kappa, or gamma, or epsilon, but I need to set realistic achievable goals.  I could just buy a beta container on the flea market, they were going for about 750K rubles last I checked. But I want to do this properly: barter trade with Peacekeeper. In exchange for a beta container Peacekeeper wants 3 Iridiums 2 Virtexes 3 Military Cables 1 Tank Battery That's a lot of military tech, which means I need to go where there are multiple military tech spawns, which means Reserve.  The rules for this quest is that I have to find each of those items in raid, but, for every PMC I kill (starting today) I will allow myself to reward myself by buying one of the items off the flea market.  Also, some of those items are craftable, and if I'm in a bind I'll allow myself to craft them, but only using 75% or more found-in-raid ingredien...

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi...
