Update: Raids 42-44 - not couraging

It's not part of any quest, but I need to improve PVP.  I'm finding this difficult to approach as a solo coward.  Also, I need more funds. I've been doing more scav raids, but they haven't all been successful. So, while not part of any in-game quest, my self made mini-quest is to kill one PMC and extract successfully.

Destination: Customs

Goals

  • kill one PMC and extract successfully
  • loot (need funds)
  • survive

Progress: funds

Raid 42

Loadout: AK-105  (5.45 x 39mm) with a mishmash of BP, BT, PS, T, and HP rounds in four 30-round magazines.  Kirasa class 3 armor, helmet, ears, meds. One grenade.  Car Med-kit and 60 rounds of BT in container.

Insurance: previously insured

Spawned above river, near Railroad to Tarkov extract.  Got closer to water and bridge and took concealment, hoping to jump a player who might try the land bridge.   Shortly after, grenade launcher shells began exploding along the river edge.  Heard their fragments rain down in the trees. Is that from the emplaced GL? I didn't realize it could aim this direction. Maybe it's the emplaced HMG over on the little skeleton - I've never been fired on before by either, so what do I know?  I seemed safe not moving, so I stayed.    After a bit, crossed the river, going over the main bridge, then made my way across the map.  Heard fighting but it was always in the distance.  Killed a player-scav near New Gas. He was fiddling with his inventory or something.  Felt bad. Skirted Gas and crossed the map.    As I stepped into the industrial area, heard shooting behind me back at New Gas. Made my way over there to see if I could third party something.  As I went I could clearly hear there were two prominent weapons firing. It was likely a duo killing the scavs there.  I approached slowly and carefully - can't afford to be seen.  But perhaps too slowly. When I arrived and got eyes on Gas it was quiet.  Waited, maybe they were inside?  But then I heard that same pair of weapons open up over in dorms.  Whatever, dorms would be pushing my luck, and taking me away from extract.   Turned around and extracted.

Time In Raid: 18 minutes, 58 seconds.

Exp: 816

Killed: Feoktist Vezunchik  (player Scav).  Godspeed Feoktist, sorry to kill you so unceremoniously.

Ammo Used: 9   Hits: 2   Accuracy: 0.22

Mistakes

  • did not pursue my goal of killing a PMC.   Made an overly cautious attempt, but mostly chickened out.

Successes

  • Survived

Raid 43

Loadout: same as before.  AK-105 and mixed ammo
Insurance: previously insured

Spawned in space between rocks.  Turned towards edge of map, making my way down to Military Base CP extract.  From there, worked my down to main road.  Looted that area and saw the Scav on the checkpoint tower. Switched to single fire and brought him down.    Another scav on the other side of the road barrier starting shouting.  I doubled back, went through the hole in the fence, switched to auto-fire, arrived at next break in the fence where I peeked and took out that second scav.  Awesome.    Sniper scav was atop the big tower. Switched to single fire and tried killing him.  I think I hit him, but then he turned and started firing on me. Ran back to first hole in fence and took cover on road-side again.

Ok, I need to start crossing the map and looking for more action. I've been making noise and hanging out in one area too long.  Reloaded.  Just then, heard a scav voice and running footsteps on the other side of the wall.  He seemed to be heading for the gap I just used.  I doubled back, and took up cover behind the forklift, aiming down sight at the gap.  A few more walking footsteps. Was trying to place those steps.   Hmmmm... That's odd - if I'm hearing this right, he should be standing right in front of me, in the gap.   Oh no!   Boom!!   A player scav (Zheka Okun) shot me in the back of the head, one round of 7.62 x 54mm R.  Mosin.    I bet he must have just spawned behind me.

That's karma...I guess.

Time In Raid: 11 minutes, 35 seconds
Exp: 383
Killed: Vitalya Adygey  and Antich Tumikmen
Ammo Used: 36   Hits: 17  Accuracy: 0.28
Heal: 8K

Mistakes

  • misplace audio cues
  • stayed in one area too long
  • lost sight of PMC goal
  • did not survive

Successes

  • I was proud of my mini-scav battle
  • correctly managed single and auto-fire and reloading

Raid 44

Loadout: AKMS (7.62 x 39mm) with Hexagon A suppressor!  Two thirty round magazines of BP and one magazine of PS.  Kirasa (class 3) armor, ears, meds, rig, backpack. One grenade.  Car medkit and 60 rounds BP in container.
Insurance: 30K

Spawned in space between rocks again. As before, made my way backwards to military checkpoint tower. Looted area.  No scavs.  Since I have that silencer, I want to use cover maximally, so I'm going to cross the map with the tree cover.  As I looped behind checkpoint I saw a player walking down the road.  I carefully aimed, fired off five quick shots, and brought him down. But, as he fell, I realized this was a scav, not a player.  Oh well.

Near dorms, approaching the first campsight, heard some motion in the bushes (not me).  I lowered my speed, quietly entered a bush for concealment, and peeked out. Nobody.  Waited.  Suddenly, there was a bunch of automatic fire on the other side of the wall. Could be two players fighting each other, or maybe a duo killing a player scav or something.  I advanced up to where I could camp the closest gap in the wall, and keep an eye on the farther one. But no activity.  Waited.  Nothing.  Resumed crossing the map.

Went into customs house yard, but no scavs or players. Getting late. Was looting the office near the front gate when I heard shotgun play at the far end of the customs building.  Exited the building and set-up, hoping to catch someone coming this way, ears listening for anyone walking towards crossroads.  But nobody and nothing.  Extracted.

Time In Raid: 32 minutes 42 seconds
Exp: 798
Killed: Vanka PHP (scav)
Ammo Used: 5  Hits: 2  Accuracy: 0.4

Mistakes

  • route I chose to cross map had little likelihood of encountering PMC action, and none were encountered.  Need to evaluate this.  Should I hustle in more aggressively to camp known quest destinations (watch, directors office?)
  • overly cautious

Successes

  • The looting and survival has helped my funds situation

Postscript

I had a scav raid on customs where I had an SKS with a Hexagon suppressor.  I killed three solo players, but each time when I went to loot the body, discovered the player was just a player scav.  I am perpetrating scav-on-scav violence.  So sorry, guys.

I like having a suppressed weapon. A lot.    In another scav raid, I acquired a suppressed AKM.  So now I have (for the moment) two suppressed weapons.   Yes!

Lastly, I have started doing scav raids on Interchange.  Once I learn that map better I may start doing proper raids there.  We shall see. I've gotten lost twice already.

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you a...

Quest for Beta! Raid 115

I have a big announcement to share: I have decided to pursue acquiring secure container beta!!   Yes, I know that's not as impressive as acquiring kappa, or gamma, or epsilon, but I need to set realistic achievable goals.  I could just buy a beta container on the flea market, they were going for about 750K rubles last I checked. But I want to do this properly: barter trade with Peacekeeper. In exchange for a beta container Peacekeeper wants 3 Iridiums 2 Virtexes 3 Military Cables 1 Tank Battery That's a lot of military tech, which means I need to go where there are multiple military tech spawns, which means Reserve.  The rules for this quest is that I have to find each of those items in raid, but, for every PMC I kill (starting today) I will allow myself to reward myself by buying one of the items off the flea market.  Also, some of those items are craftable, and if I'm in a bind I'll allow myself to craft them, but only using 75% or more found-in-raid ingredien...

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi...
