Because I'm so bad at combat I have set a personal task of killing one PMC and successfully extracting. Five raids later I've only encountered another player a few times, mostly because I instinctively avoid them. And the few encounters I have had have mostly not gone well.
Destination: Customs
Goals
- kill a PMC and extract successfully
- survive
- still need to find a spark plug and salewas (low priority)
Raid 45
Loadout: AKMS (7.62x39mm) with dot-sight and suppressor . Two magazines of BP, one of PS. Meds, rig, backpack, no helmet. Car kit and extra BP rounds in container.
Spawned in liquid containment section, near small oblong containers. Switched to auto-fire and went into the building with the green-screen. Looted. But looting isn't really why I'm here, and I really don't want to get in CQB fight so I left. As I made my way downstairs encountered a scav, who I quickly dispatched. Stepped out of the building, switched to single fire.
Worked my way over to construction. Very quiet - no sign of any players on hills, near gas, or in the industrial areas. One scav shot at me near gas, but only half-heartedly. I couldn't see him, so I continued. In construction checked the little loot behind the bushes and razor wire. Also a good place to spy observe and listen. But no one. Waited for a bit, but quiet. Heard running, a player was in the courtyard heading in my general direction. Slowed down so as to not make noise in bushes and began to work my way out, hoping to catch him. He was walking away from me, towards the shipping container that opens through the wall. I aimed down sight, put the reticle on his head and fired. And missed? In any case, the player seemed utterly undisturbed. He turned and was gone. I waited, worried that he had heard the shot and might return to investigate. But no. Guess that suppressor works pretty well.
Should I chase him? Probably too late now. I was hoping to hear some gunfire near Gas - then I could venture out again and third party him. But it was quiet.
I continued onward. Amazingly, no sign of anyone in the rest of the construction area. No bodies. I continued and crossed river. I decided to step into customs building area. As I snuck around its periphery I spotted a scav in the parking lot. I aimed, held my breath and shot him in the head. And he just walked like nothing had happened. Did I miss again? I started shooting him, repeatedly. Suddenly he turned and shot me, and he didn't miss. Fuck. I broke contact. Medded. I went around the front gate office, and caught him again. But, once again, my shots seemed to have little effect, he shot (and hit) and then he ducked behind some cover. I took the opportunity to jump into the office. I needed to med. A lot.
As I was medding, I heard him moving outside the office. I was crouching, avoiding the windows. He was on the windowless side, just on the other side of the wall when he shouted "Ah ha!!" and shot me through the wall. As I fell over dead, I could see the tip of his gun jutting through the wall. Oy.

Time In Raid: 29 minutes, 23 seconds
Exp: 308
Healing: 9K
Killed: Aristarh Animator (scav)
Ammo Used: 27 Hits: 7
Mistakes
- died
- died to a scav
- was I too cautious when I approached that player? Had I moved a little faster, I might have been able to get more shots on him. But, he might have heard me and gunned me down....

Raid 46 - Inept
After the last raid I decide to do a Scav run. But first I wanted to prepare my character a bit. In part because my inventory is really crowded right now and putting gear on person will leave more room if my scav run is successful. So I loaded up an M4A1 (CumShooter9), rig, magazines, meds. And then I decided "you know what? I want to keep trying to kill a PMC, so even though I've never once used this weapon, let's go for it!".
Spawned above river, away from main bridge. Went down to water edge, under concealment, in a place where I hope I can fire on someone trying to cross the land bridge. After a few minutes, saw someone on the bridge - looked like a scav. Someone across the river was firing on him. I aimed and started firing on him too. Then I remembered - I think there is something where if a player spawns, but doesn't move, they can't be killed. Whizz -- Thwack! The person across the river was now firing on _me_. Whizz - Thwack. Gotta move. Ran up the hill.
Entered Customs house lot. Looted back gate office. Proceeded along wall. As I went I saw a PMC leave the customs building and go out the far wall. A player!! He'll likely be heading for the bridges, which will take him down the road. Maybe I can catch him by surprise. I ran forward until the little jog that leads back outside the yard. After that I crouched and started slowly creeping forward.
Did I beat him here? Am I here first? Or did he pass already? I moved forward toward the railroad signal house. Just then I heard running and saw a flash of the player as he moved between some cars. I got behind the rock there, waiting. But there was no further sign of him. Where did he go?
I waited, worrying he might not head toward me. If he's heading for the lower bridge across from the smuggler, he would go away from me, likely going around the train engine. I started to move, to peek around the signal house to see if there was any sign of him. Just then I caught fire - I hadn't been careful in my movement. He was hitting me badly, and I couldn't see him. I panicked and ran. I ran toward the train and went up and through the open railcar. I fled toward the main bridge, but suddenly I stopped running. No stamina. No stamina? I forgot to eat and drink between raids!! You have to do that even if you die. Damn! The player started firing at me through the train wheels. I staggered away, hot-keying my painkiller. But there was no pain-killer. What? Oh god, I also forgot to hot-key my meds.
I moved further away, looking for good cover. I took shitty cover behind a car, and fiddled with my inventory to take a painkiller. I need to med. I heard the other player, walking on cement. But he's not here. I walked side to side - I have the immediate approaches well covered. Listening more I could tell that he's under the bridge. Is there some sneaky parkour trick to get up the sides of this thing? Is he going to flank me? I need to get out of here.
I decided, poorly, to go back. I will head towards the customs house, get off this bridge. I might be able to find a defensible position, and it'll be in the opposite direction he was originally intending, so maybe I'll get away. Or maybe not. I can only run short distances and I was utterly forgetting about the train itself - can't just walk through that. But, it mattered not, I didn't even get off the bridge before CataclysmicScar appeared at the edge of the bridge. We traded fire and I died. Good fight CataclysmicScar. !
Time In Raid: 9 minutes, 33 seconds
Exp: 28
Ammo Used: 31. No hits (!!).
Mistakes
- Not remembering to eat and drink between consecutive raids
- Not hot-keying meds
- Taking a weapon I've never tried before into a raid.
- Panicking
- Misinterpreting his movement. "Where did he go?" I realize now that he likely stopped running because he saw me. The first rock by the signal house was good cover. I probably should have used a grenade to try and force him to move - even if I wasn't completely sure where he was. I completely messed up.
- Did I remember to bring grendades (I think I didn't).
- The decision to run onto the bridge was a poor one. In part, it was because I couldn't run (no stamina) and was taking fire again. I was seeking hard cover. But a better decision would probably have been to go down the hill, either side. He was behind the train, and once I break visual contact and get quiet he'll have to be careful in both how he gets around the train and pursues. Going onto the bridge, where he could see me going onto the bridge, was a very bad choice.
- When I opened up on him with auto-fire, right before I died, no shots hit. Shouldn't be a surprise, under the circumstances. But still.
Successes
- At some point I don't remember, I switched to auto-fire.
- I correctly anticipated the players movement at the beginning - I succeeded in cutting him off at the river crossing, just as intended.
- Even though I lost, utterly, I actually truly tried.
