Update: Raids 16 - 19. Level 5 and languishing

Map: Customs

Goals:

  • Survive
  • Get Machine Key from Dorms. Remember to put it in pouch.
  • Get Watch from Truck
Progress: Embarrassing

Raid 16

Loadout: VPO-206 with .366 TKM FMJ, Class 3 armor, Rig. Meds, Sling
Pouch: Salewa and one grenade, empty slot for machine key
Insurance: 4.6K

Spawned between customs warehouse and storage units. Quietly made way to river and crossed junk bridge. Not far from junk bridge, was jumped by a bush wookie who killed me. I did not fire a single shot.  Must have been player who had the north above river spawn. I didn't think I was moving fast enough to catch up with him, but apparently wrong about that.

YugeBigly killed me with 7.62x39mm.   Congratulation YugeBigly. Please don't take my VPO. [Follow up: he did]

Time In Raid: 5 minutes, 30 seconds
Exp: 0

Mistakes

  • junk bridge seems high traffic these days. Should have avoided.
  • Moving too fast? Maybe a stop and listen might have changed things?
  • Forgot to bring headset.

Successes

  • None

Raid 17

Loadout: MP5 and 4 mags (gzh ammo), rig, ears (12K), class 4 armor (19K repair), meds. Same pouch.
Insurance: 21K

Spawned above train - far side. Pushed away from wall and towards dorms.  Could hear heavy fighting starting in construction and maybe new gas. Not far from dorms someone began firing on me. Ran, hid in brush near south edge of three story dorm building with hard cover - looking for my attacker if he followed. No sign of pursuit.

Here I made my first mistake.  My plan was to switch that grenade out to my rig while I was in a building where I might have to fight close quarters and to switch the MP5 to burst fire or full auto. But I forgot both.  Went up fire escape stairs to second floor, opened door, pulled back, quiet. Entered and closed door behind me.  Entered room searched jackets and put machine key in pouch. (Yes).  Forgot to take screen shot of poster.    Now to exit: window or door?  The window landing can be tricky, don't need a broken leg, and doorms seems quiet, so chose to go back to the door by which I had entered. However, before I stepped down into hallway, PMC came round corner (he must have been slow walking) and started autofire on me immediately (he knew I was there).  I had time to fire one shot, which hit, but probably didn't even scratch him.

Killed by SemiGoodPlayer.  Congratulations SemiGoodPlayer - nicely played!!

Time in Raid: 4 minutes, 45 seconds.
Exp: 95   ( only 50 more raids like this to make level 6 )
Killed by 5.56x45mm M856A1.   Likely from an M4.   Was also grazed (in first encounter) by 5.45x39mm PP.

Mistakes

  • rushing and forgetting plans.
  • not switching weapon from single fire
  • forgetting to prepare grenade (it would not have mattered, but a mistake nonetheless)

Successes

  • got the machine key and put it in pouch.
  • evaded first encounter and reset correctly (both obscured and with hard cover)

Raid 18 - Second Kill

Loadout: SKS loaded with 10 rounds BP.  40 rounds PS in pocket. Meds, Ulley armored rig. Ears (13K)
Insurance: 14K
Goal: survive and retrieve watch

Spawned south end above far side of river, south end.  Found some obscuring cover and buttoned up.  Give other players time to move, then head out. Exiting players are usually less inclined to put their loot in jeopardy (and may be wounded).  While waiting, there was some footsteps near me, but stayed put.  After a bit more remembered that supposedly the "third button" on my mouse is the mouse wheel. Wanted to try free look, so I pressed that - and shot off three rounds from super loud SKS. Damn! Allright, I guess it's time to go. Started reloading and headed out.

Went to main bridge and crossed over it going cover to cover.  Sidled up to truck just off the bridge, looked downsight towards gas. Nothing. Looked downsight toward sniper roadblock - there was a player walking right towards me down the road!  I fired. I don't think he saw me at first. I fired more shots, and more. Apparently I have the worse aim in the world. Slow as he was, he wasn't completely stupid - he started firing, and landing hits. I don't have good cover facing him. I ran.  Crossed road, headed towards construction.  Checked behind - he wasn't following.

Probably should have used the other entrance to construction, but I wanted to put more distance between me and last player, just in case. Headed along wall past bus stop, reloading and entered construction through gap in wall at the bottom of road that heads to dorms. No sign of anyone.   Went back along gas tanks.  Clear. Concrete blocks. Clear.  The truck is right there, but I want to check clear just a bit more of rear area - crossed near shacks along wall. Clear.  Started towards truck and started catching fire.  Footsteps. I ducked into metal cargo container (it's open on both sides). About to peek where I entered when that edge catches fire. Ran to other side, he's in the clear and sees me - I continue to concrete blocks. Duck, cross them, hide on far side, aiming down sight. I'm wounded, but nothing to be done about it.   He is following. Expects me to be crouched between barriers, but I'm not there. He steps out right in front of me, facing away.  I fire. And somehow miss?  And fire. And fire.  He turns around and starts firing on me, not good. I squeeze into a tiny bit of cover, lean out, aim, and shoot him in the head.
I am in bad shape.  I don't bother looting the body, and I'm not going back to the truck yet. Go back behind one of the gas tanks, through brush, and start to med up.  Painkillers, cheese, esmarch, salewa ... still in bad shape. But no broken legs.  If I can get some water or food, I might be ok.
Next mistake - didn't loot my victims body. He wasn't out in open, it might have been safe and he might have had food or drink.  Instead I proceeded towards truck, worried about other players having heard the noise and come sniffing.  I intentionally cut my walking speed to half just to avoid blacking out.  As I made my way across, another player appeared in front of me. He fired and missed, I moved behind some cover only to see yet another player up on some scaffolding - he fired and hit. I took better cover, but too late - blacked out and died.

Killed by Cr3L.  Not sure if he was the PMC I killed, or the last one to hit me.   Congratulations whichever Cr3L!

Time In Raid: 30 minutes, 28 seconds
Exp: 652
Kills: some BEAR, level 0-10
Shots I fired: 23.  Hits: 4 (only).
Shots I received: .366 TKM FMJ (from the PMC I killed) , 9x19mm tracer  and 7.62x39mm PS. (likely from first encounter on road and last player)

Mistakes

  • died
  • should have looted my kill - he might have had meds, food or water which I needed desperately.  All of which might have given me a better chance later.
  • what's with the aiming? 23 shots fired an only 4 hits?
  • Definitely should have been able to kill the first PMC.

Successes

  • evading the first PMC after it became clear I am too inept to down him
  • killed another PMC.  Bringing my grand total to 2.

Raid #19 - Idiocy Kills

I started to prepare for my next raid when I realized I am getting pretty low on cash.  Need to be looting more. So I decided to make a scav run on Woods as I need to learn that new map more.

Spawned in a building.  Was surprised to just have a knife in my hand - I thought scavs always had weapons. Peeked the door...this isn't Woods. Oh god. How inept am I?  I have somehow entered a raid as a PMC on Customs.   Wrong raid AND wrong map? How is that level of incompetence even possible?  No insurance.  No weapon. No meds.  And having not eaten or drank anything, so almost 0 energy and hydration.   Just my knife and an old Ulley rig I had put on before realizing my financial straits. I am an accursed hatchling. Pariah.   But I have the machine key in my pouch.  Maybe I can make another attempt.

Searched the building - amazingly it had a weapons crate with a suppressed Kedr PP-91 with half a mag. Need to find food and water and my bearings.  I'm in the warehouse area, the dead end.  Should I try jumping the car and portable toilets? I have never once succeeded in that jump, seems with energy hovering above 0 that's not the best.  Decided to go out front gate and then hole in wall.  Worked my way there, wasn't using cover well. As I approached the hole in the wall, heard footsteps on the other side, but I think he heard me too.  I crouched, aimed down sight, fixed on the gap.  PMC stepped through, firing at me knowing where I was.  I was also firing, felt like I should be landing shots.  Damn - I forgot to put the weapon on auto-fire. PMC ducked back. I don't have hard cover.  I started stepping back towards end of pipe - I might be able to get cover there, but didn't stop aiming.  He poked out again and we exchanged fire.  I died.

Congratulations Vitek Torek on the kill.

Time In Raid: 7 minutes, 44 seconds (felt like much less)
Exp: 54
Shots I fired: 5.  Hits: 1.   (I SUCK!!)
killed by 9x18 PM P gzh

Mistakes

  • Choosing Wrong Raid Type
  • Choosing Wrong Map
  • Unprepared - maybe I should always keep PMC combat ready in case I make this mistake again
  • Not switching to auto-fire with Kedr. That weapon is useless single fire. (Of course, I only had half a magazine....)
  • Not moving immediately to hard cover.  ( was there time? what if he had peeked gap earlier?)
  • Did Not Survive

Successes

  • Did not miss every shot.

Field of Fire of Emplaced Weapons at Lighthouse USEC Base, for BEARS

On the new Lighthouse map, the USEC rogues are very aggressive against BEARS and will sight on you out to 300 meters or more, and will fire on you far quicker than they will on a USEC PMC.  The fixed guns are particularly dangerous as they can kill you with a single hit when you might not even realize you are close to the base. I made a map with some fields of fire noted on it. There are two mounted machine guns on building 1 , two mounted machine guns and a grenade launcher on building 2 , and a single machine gun on building 3 .  Plus there is a mounted machine gun and grenade launcher on the southwest corner of the base (lower right on this map).  I have noted the general field of fire of each of these weapons on the map. Obviously, there is a lot of cover, so just because you are standing in a red zone on this map doesn't necessarily mean you can be seen and hit. BUT, if there is any sort of line of sight (including through trees, bushes, walls and vehicles) and you a...

Quest for Beta! Raid 115

I have a big announcement to share: I have decided to pursue acquiring secure container beta!!   Yes, I know that's not as impressive as acquiring kappa, or gamma, or epsilon, but I need to set realistic achievable goals.  I could just buy a beta container on the flea market, they were going for about 750K rubles last I checked. But I want to do this properly: barter trade with Peacekeeper. In exchange for a beta container Peacekeeper wants 3 Iridiums 2 Virtexes 3 Military Cables 1 Tank Battery That's a lot of military tech, which means I need to go where there are multiple military tech spawns, which means Reserve.  The rules for this quest is that I have to find each of those items in raid, but, for every PMC I kill (starting today) I will allow myself to reward myself by buying one of the items off the flea market.  Also, some of those items are craftable, and if I'm in a bind I'll allow myself to craft them, but only using 75% or more found-in-raid ingredien...

On "The Video"

No doubt, anyone following Tarkov has seen the video from Goat:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek If you've read my blog before, you know I've tried tracking cheaters in the past by checking all my kills and killers in the in-game chat tool over time. I made several posts, the last of which was this one:  https://itarkovpoorly.blogspot.com/2022/06/counting-cheater-part-4.html My take on the video?  The reason it's called "The wiggle that killed tarkov" is because if cheaters are signaling each other via wiggling, it means there is a CULTURE of cheating and cheaters. And that's the shocking thing. It's not just "some people cheat", it's that there is a whole CULTURE of people cheating, with their own set of spoken/unspoken rules, behaviors, norms and manners. And if you've got a whole culture around something, then it's likely widespread and endemic. And disappointing.  Someone made the remark on Reddit that watching the vi...
